NuxtLabs joins Vercel

NuxtLabs, creators and stewards of Nitro and Nuxt, are joining Vercel.

Nuxt, the fullstack web framework, is trusted by hundreds of thousands of developers and used by some of the world’s largest companies, with more than 1 million downloads every week.

Nitro is the server runtime built for consistency across frameworks, platforms, and workloads. It powers APIs, AI agents, and more. In many ways, Nitro does for web frameworks what the Open Container Initiative did for containers: setting a clear, portable standard.

Led by Sebastien Chopin, original creator of Nuxt, NuxtLabs has funded and employed many of the team behind Nuxt and Nitro, including Daniel Roe, Pooya Parsa, and Anthony Fu. Their work has shaped a beloved open source ecosystem in modern web development.

We’re joining a company that shares our values and is helping us go further without compromising on what makes Nuxt special. Our open source team is coming along, and we’ll continue working on Nuxt and Nitro with the same focus and care. The projects stay MIT-licensed. The roadmap stays public. The community stays at the center.

A shared commitment to open source

Vercel is committed to helping push the open web forward. Whether it’s frameworks like Next.js and SvelteKit, tools like Turborepo and AI SDK, or creators like shadcn, we believe the best software is made in the open.

Nuxt and Nitro will remain independent, open source projects with an MIT license, public roadmap, and open governance. Nitro will continue to serve all frameworks and vendors openly, neutrally, and without lock-in. The community will remain at the center.

We’re proud to support open source projects not just with infrastructure, but with long-term investment and a shared vision. Vercel’s open SDK strategy is about raising the bar for the web: high cohesion with our infrastructure, loose coupling by design, and open by default.

We want every framework, and every approach to building for the web, to feel fully supported.

What’s next

This is a significant milestone for NuxtLabs, Vercel, and the future of the open web. We’re not just backing great software, we’re backing the people behind it.

Over the next few months Nuxt Studio MDC, Nuxt UI Pro, and NuxtHub Admin will all become free and open source.

We’re honored to welcome the Nuxt team to Vercel to keep shipping for developers everywhere.
